How to prepare for the technician (installation day)

3 min read

Good prep saves everyone time and avoids back-and-forth. Here's what we ask for most often before an install.

Clear the path

  • Hallway, stairs, and front door clear (the tank is heavy and bulky)
  • Space around the old heater: enough to work and carry it out
  • Simple test: if you can roll a chair from the door to the heater with no obstacles, access is good

Check space and the panel

Newer models are often a bit wider (better insulation). Confirm the new unit fits the planned spot. The electrical panel must be reachable: the tech (or electrician) may need to check wire and breaker.

On the day

  • Say where to drain the old tank (floor drain, sump, outdoors)
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Mention if parking is tight near your place
  • Have questions ready about pan, detector, or expansion tank — we'll decide together
You don't need to know the code. Photos of the space and the label before the appointment already help a lot for an accurate quote.
